Budapest, Hungary October 22 and 23, 2010

Our last sunset on the river

Budapest at night--some of the photos are not real clear

There are 7 bridges across the Danube in Budapest, the "Queen of the Danube."

We were on the sun deck.  It was cold, but our hot, spiced wine warmed us up.  The sight was one of the most beautiful we have seen.

Going under through the bridge

The next morning--sunshine!!!
The National Opera House and Hero's Square

Statues on Hero's Square

Adam and Eve

A warrior

An Hungarian warrior--Hungary has such an interesting history.

A street in Budapest--the photo taken while on the bus

Parliament

Matthias Church

Beautiful tile roof

Beautiful inside too

The floor, all this is left that is original from the 13th century.  Everything else has been restored.

The city of Buda and Pest.  The photo is taken from the Buda side, the old city.  Pest is the modern side.  They were first united in 1873.

View from Gellert Hill

Another view of Matthias Church and its beautiful roof

The morning was spent touring the city, mostly on the Buda side.  The afternoon was spent shopping mostly    on the Pest side!!

The bridge, photo taken through the bus window

Ending on a sad note.  This is a monument of shoes to commemorate the Jews who were pushed into the river and drowned during WWII.  The only thing left to remember the event was their shoes!
